Can I call it Knitting-Related OCD?

Whether you call it "on a binge" "going through a phase" or "in a rut", I have recently noticed that I tend to knit the type of garment over and over until the "feeling passes." I have gone through many hat binges, as well as socks, baby booties, scarves, shawls, and baby hats. You can even see it on this blog if you go back through the titles.

Right now, it's fingerless gloves. And this phase has lasted a while. Right now I am making simple, straightforward gloves so I am put an iron-on applique on back of the hand. I have also been toying with lace cuffs to add a bit of flair.

This also includes the purchase of the appliques. I haunted the craft stores for appliques, but they don't stock much, and what they do stock is unexciting. So I turned to the wonderful world of the internet and Etsy. Now I have appliques of cats, unicorns, dragons, sunflowers, flower strays, bluebirds, and music staffs. (I kind of went overboard).

The truth is I can't knit as fast as I can buy appliques, so I hope this phase lasts awhile. These are first of several to come so check back often.

By the way, I will be listing these on my Etsy page myself, and I will be writing up the patterns I use to makes these too. You can check it out at http://www.etsy.com/shop/KniceKnittiesShop

More Fingerless

I just love this yarn called Woolike from Loops and Threads.  It is actually an acrylic that feels like a very soft wool in fingering weight. I do have some friends who are allergic to some natural fibers like wool and alpaca so this is perfect for them. And this wonderfully softness makes fingerless gloves to die for! So I started knitting and knitting and knitting. I even managed to sell a couple of these pairs on Etsy.

The yarn is not too expensive either. I usually go to my local yarn store for my yarn, but I did purchase these at Michaels'. So here is what I have been doing lately:

Fingers Furiously Flying for Fingerless

I put this pair up on Etsy.  You can see it at www.etsy.com/shop/KniceKnittiesShop
The color is periwinkle and has a lattice design.
This one has sold.
I have been designing and knitting fingerless gloves for years, but none more than the last few months. Fingerless gloves are popular today, but they are actually from the Victorian era. At those times, a young lady was expected to learn to play music and sing, as well as do needlecrafts such as knitting, embroidery, and sewing. To keep her hands warm but still free to play the piano, fingerless gloves were not only fashionable, but functional.

This is a pine tree design on
the back of the hand. I plan to do some
more of these next year. This one
has also been sold.
Now these gloves are in fashion as computer gloves.  In order to stave off the chills of low thermostats in the winter or air conditioning in the summer, these gloves made working on computer keyboards a must.  They are also called texting gloves, allowing thumbs to racing across cell phones keypads while keeping hands warm.  No matter what you use them for, they are a delightful accessory. Here are some of my gloves.

I am in the process of designing a black pair with a rose motif. I will also be selling this pattern, so stay tuned.
