Flowered Headband for a Cold House

We live in a solar house. Although it is over 4200 square feet, our utilities bill is always under $15.00. No kidding! But there is a downside to a solar house: the temperature swings.

We rarely turn on our furnace. My husband (who is an solar house architect) is so determined to keep our utility bill low, I have to spend the first hour of the morning bundled up. The south side of the house is all glass so as soon as the sun comes up, the house warms up quickly. The problem then it might get too hot by late afternoon. We don't try to cool it down because when the sun goes down we need that heat for the evening and nighttime.

Now I am naturally able to take cool weather and in fact prefer it. So this is the headband I use in the morning until the sun does its duty.  It keep my ears warm enough as I drink my first (and second) cup of coffee. Unfortunately I don't remember where I got this pattern. It is done in double-knit stockinette so it is pretty thick. The yarn is a Lion Brand acrylic. I will do an update if I come across the pattern.

Sunflowers for Evelyn

If you are a knitter and only have boys, you tend to envy all those cute girly baby things you want to make. However, my best friend Sheila has a daughter who I always claimed as mine. I told Sophie that she was really my daughter but I let Sheila raise her.  Now Sophie is having her own baby. Baby Evelyn Sheila is due the first part of November so I finally get to make some cute and adorable things for her. I am going to mail them this week so she will have them in time for a baby shower.

I love sunflowers so I had to incorporate that into the sweater for her. I think I did a total of three other sunflowers before I made on I like. Anyway, here is the sweater for my make-believe granddaughter.

The free pattern is the Play Date Cardie by Red Heart at http://www.yarnspirations.com/red-heart-play-date-cardi/RHK0229-021502M.html.

There are lots of sunflowers on Ravelry, but the one I used does not appear to be in print anymore. I modified it anyway and made the petals longer. The buttons I got from a YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHkGNAQ_Hr0.

Poinsettia Pins

Today is Christmas Eve, and this is my Poinsettia pattern.  Here is hoping that everyone reading this will have a safe and happy holiday, no matter what holiday you celebrate!

Winter Flowers

Every now and then, I get in a rut, if you can call it that. Here is a series of hats I did a few years ago in worsted weight yarn in a variety of colors and shades. I might have to dig this pattern out again and make some more. I remember that this is a very fun pattern to make.

Fingerless in lavender again

Just a basic fingerless glove with white flowers applique. I use a fabric glue to attach the embellishment.

Overload of Lavendar

This is also a commission of lavender fingerless gloves for my sister-in-law. Flowers and lace for three generations.
